Alumni Race at Head of the Schuylkill

The Alumni boat was 25th out of 30 in the Club eight. We passed one boat "Wharton" and were passed by one boat. It was a tough race with a strong headwind and rain...Just what you'd expect after 2 years of cancelations of this regatta. It was really tough going through the bridges, because the wind was amplified by the bridge and it felt like we hit a brick wall. Even with all the wet windy weather, everybody left tired and happy.

Boat: Dan Greeley '04, Nick Dipompeo '07, Mike Wood '04, Jon Heimall '02, Matt Bystrowski '04, Sean Galvin '04, Mike Perez '07, Chris Brito '07.

UD Alumni Medal at Head of the Charles

The 44th annual Head of the Charles took place October 18th and 19th 2008 in Boston, MA. It was a perfect weekend for racing with cool temperatures and a light breeze. More than 7,500 athletes from around the world competed in 55 different race events attracting up to 300,000 spectators, making the HOC the largest regatta in the world.

This year there were several boats at the HOC involving alumni racers from the University of Delaware Men's Crew. Congratulations to the club four from Wilmington Rowing Club, which grabbed a 4th place medal in their event. The crew consisted of four UD alumni rowers; Brian Venti, '93, Matt Iacone, '93, Steve Rosenberg, '97 and long time assistant coach John Williams. Awesome job!

Additionally Delaware rowed a full alumni line-up in the Club Eight event. Members included; Dan Greeley '04, Adam Horning '05, Shawn Duff '08, Stefan Katz '08, Pete Seymour '08, Andrew Hanna '03, Sean Galvin '04, Mike Wood '04 and coxswain Katie McCoy '05.

Delaware also had alumni Ryan Jornlin '08 and Ivan Baldychev '06 racing in the elite events for Penn Athletic Club from Boathouse Row in Philadelphia, PA. Jornlin raced in the Championship Eight in a crew which consisted of a handful of 2008 USA and Dutch Olympians as well as other former USA National Team members. The boat finished 22nd place in the highly competitive event, while Baldychev faired well in the Lightweight Single event placing 7th out of 28 entries.
